SECRET CATFISHING TECHNIQUE: MYSTERIOUS OLD SCHOOL STRANGER

I WANT YOU TO IMAGINE GETTING OUT ON THE RIVER FOR A LIL CATFISHIN AND YOU’VE GOT A SECRET TECHNIQUE THAT PROMISES YOULLE CATCH FISH!  WOULDN’T THAT BE AWSOME?  WELL YOU DON’T HAVE TO IMAGINE IT ANYMORE, BECAUSE IM GONNA SHOW YOU HOW! BUT FIRST LET ME TELL YOU A LIL STORY ON HOW I DISCOVERED IT.

WHEN I FIRST GOT INTO CATFISHING ME AND A BUDDY OF MINE DECIDED WE WOULD PULL AN AL NITE CATFISHING TRIP.  WE GOT ON THE RIVER AND HEADED TO OUR SPOT AND SET UP ON AN ANCHOR, WE NOTICE ANOTHER BOAT HAD SLIPPED IN ON US, AND WAS FISHING THE SAME AREA. WELL WE SPENT ALL NITE FISHING AND DIDN’T HAVE A FISH.

DAY LITE COMES AND WERE BEAT , SO WE HEADED BACK TO THE RAMP TO FIND THIS OTHER FELLA THAT FISHED AROUND US  ALL NITE  LOADING HIS BOAT WITH SOME SUPPLYS, I GUESS HIM TO BE 70 YEARS OLD AND PROLLY WEIGHED BOUT 90 LBS. LOL HIS BOAT WAS AN OLD BEAT UP 14 FT FLAT BOTTOM WITH AND OLD JOHNSON MOTOR,

SO I GET TO TALKIN WITH HIM ASKED HIM IF HE DID ANY GOOD, HE SAID NOT MUCH AT ALL, BUT SAID IM HEADED BACK OUT TO CATCH SOME BLUES! I SAID WHAT? HE SAID YEA  GONNA GO CATCH SOME BLUES.  IM THINKIN HMMM! SO I JUST COME RITE OUT AND ASK HIM, SIR IM NOT TRYIN TO BE A SMART ASS BUT WE BOTH SPENT ALL NITE ON THIS RIVER AND DIDN’T HAVE MUCH LUCK, SO WHAT MAKES YOU THINK  YOU CAN CATCH THEM NOW?

SO NOW THIS IS WERE THAT LIL MAN CHANGED MY LIFE AS A CATFISHERMAN. HE SAID DRIFT FISHING AND THE STARTED TELLIN ME HOW TO DO IT, AND ABOUT THE FISH HE HAD CAUGHT,  BY THEN I WAS ALL FIRED UP AND READY TO TRY IT MYSELF SO I WENT HOME GOT CLEANED UP AND A NAP AND WAS OUT THERE AGAIN TO TRY THIS SURE FIRE WAY TO CATCH BIG BLUES.

I PICKED MY SPOT AND PUT MY RODS OUT AS HE EXPLAINED AND WITHIN 15 MINS I HAD A FISH, I CAUGHT SEVERAL FISH THAT EVENING BUT NOTHIN HUGE, BUT IT WAS ENOUGH TO GET ME HOOKED ON THIS DRIFTING TECHNIQUE THOUGH. IVE NEVER RAN INTO TO THIS OLD SCHOOL STRANGER AGAIN, BUT HE DID LEAVE ME WITH SOME VERY VALUABLE INFORMATION THAT I VE USED FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS AND IT ALSO ALLOWS ME TO PASS ON TO OTHERS.

This is the best catfishing site I have came across. Others I have been on are more of the message board type. I enjoy this format because you show us what your talking about. I am excited and ready to hit the water now. But I gotta wait until Friday. But I will be using what I have learned when I go.

Steve just wanted to say Thanks Man, you helped me learn to drift fish, at first I hated it kept getting hung up busting stuff off was a pure pain in the butt doing it, then talked to you learned to read the rod tips and how they react to fish hitting the baits verses the weights dragging on the bottom or thru structure, you told me at the Madison Classic in 2010 that I needed to be patient and not do the run and gun thing drifting that I use when I anchor down, slow down and concentrate on the structure and ledges that I mark on my graph, and never ever leave fish that are biteing even small fish to go find fish.
It paid off this weekend 8-21-2010 we won our first tournament ot of Tanners Creek drifting for the Blues we have been fishing this area since 1994, thanks again my friend even old river dogs like me can learn new stuff if you stop and listen…….thanks again Steve-O you are a great help

Steve, I’m from Arlington TX,I like your presentations. I would like to know about the Skippys you catch. How do you keep them over long period of time ? We can not get them down here. Need big bait to catch big fish.

i catch them in numbers when there runnin and freeze them in zip locks, some guys will freeze them in vacum bags, but as fast as i use them it really isnt worth the time, but for guys that fish occasionally, vacum packin is perfect.
but if you have big shad in your area that is what i would want, something that is native to your waters, and shad works great also.
