Hello Steve. Awesome blue! I notice that in most of your videos you are using cut Skipjack as bait. I am having a really hard time targeting Skipjack in my area (Maysville / Northern Kentucky Area). I’ve even tried going to the closest dam and have still had no luck. What type of structure do skipjack prefer? Also, is using live bait, such as medium sized bluegill, not recommended when drift fishing? Thanks for the help!

you gotta catch the skip jack when there at the dams in the spring time and freeze them for the year, or you can hit kentucky or barkley dams when there generating water! but yea its tuff to find skips now! but big shad will work also, and bluegill, id say the would hit a live bait if they had the opprotunity.

Hello Steve, Im glad Landon asked that question because i was having the same trouble. You make it look easy and I really enjoyed watching your videos, but that hasnt put me on the big blues yet but your helping me get closer. Caught a 28 pounder the other day on big cut shad drifting the Mississippi in the eddies.

28 lber is a respectable fish!in my book. keep doin what your doin and youll run into a biggin sooner or later. bait is an issue ill cover a lil more soon. but big shad is a great bait, especialy this time of year! hang in there i promise the monster is just around the corner.

Hey Steve, just wanted you to know you had me smiling today. I can say drifting for blues really works. I fished a long river channel that is between 29 and 33 feet, I just put my rods on hold and sat back. When the first rod went down i thought i was hung, but behold it was a nice one “33lbs” my largest yet. For all your valuable experince and countless hours in the boat I thank you. My boat will have a set of Monster Rod Holders very soon. By the way it was hoooottt today, water temp was 94.6.

JASON I DONT KNOW HOW I MISSED YOU BUD, SORRY. but if water levels are up , the current speed will also increase, in that case i would either anchor up or bump the baits, if the water is high you can concentrate in the same areas, but you may need to adjust the depth your fishing, depends on the current speed. find some current seams and you should find some fish.
